WOW!!! Somehow, in what is the true definition of irony I just found out that my site has the exact same url as....an effing Christian hymn/other bible nonsense site. The only diff is that 2 letters switched around. I wonder how many people went online looking for the house of God only to end up in the House of Pain? The only time the word "religion" is used on my site is when it is immediately proceeded by the word "Fuck"!
It is interesting though- follow me…
Many websites purposely set up URLs with very similar spelling as other, more popular URLs. They do this so their site can get a lot of accidental traffic. If the site they are whoring off of is in the same or similar business, this whore site can often steal customers. Other times, the industries of the established and copycat site are nothing alike, but the copying site just wants get traffic anyway they can so they can get more advertising revenue, among other reasons.
The main culprits of this practice are porn sites. Porn sites are everywhere. The porn industry owns URLs very similar to those of any company or celebrity you can think of. Their purpose is different though. When people see porn, there is a very good chance that they will stop and look around on site awhile, regardless of what they were looking for. Often, they end up forgetting what the hell they were even online for cuz they are too busy looking at boobies. Online porn is easily one of top revenue industries in world. Sex sells better than anything (except fear- fear is top selling tactic in the history of the universe).
Now, I will gloat briefly. The URL of the Christian website wasn’t even a word. The 2 letters that were switched around from mine made a word on their URL that didn’t even make sense. The address is:
http://dp-chronicles.blogPSot.com. The P and S were curious in their placement. What were they trying to spell?

There are 2 theories I have- 1 kind of likely, the other is something only i would even think of.
1- They wanted dp-chronicles.blogspot.com, but i beat them to it. For this to be true, the site must be brand spankin' new, as I've only had dp-chronicles for 6 months or so.
2- They researched and found that my site gets alot of traffic, so they started a url with almost exact spelling hoping to steal my customers. I do list religion as one of my keywords for site, but I do that cuz I rip on religion mercilessly every chance i get. People who go to my site might be putting religion in their search box, but the word immediately before it is something like Fuck, who cares about, or something vulgar like that. In short, if my readers end up there, they will be off that site faster than it takes me to drop my plans when I see Tommy Boy on TV. If religious freaks accidentally on my site, I at least have some stories that they would take an interest in. So, I kicked religion's ass once again!
