I hate LeBron James, and hated to see Miami win. However, Ill give credit where credit is due. LeBron James dominated that series, especially last two games. He carried his team to the title, as D-Wade and Bosh did not rise to the occasion. LeBron's 2 triple doubles and one of the best game 7 performances in NBA Finals' history sold me on him being one of the all-time greats.
Don't get ahead of yourself, though. Please hold off with the better-than-Jordan talks. James needs at least a few more rings before he can be deemed worthy of sharing a sentence with MJ. Even then the discussion would be short and not end in your favor. Listen, I'm sure the current best player in the NBA can run a front office better than Jordan, and he's prolly a better card player, maybe even better hitter too(Jordan batted like .200 that season), but Michael had the far better playing career. While LBJ will go down as an all-time great now, MJ's will go down as the all-time great. He was bigger than his sport, which is a moniker only a handful of athletes could relate too (Tiger, Gretzky and Ali at their peaks, The Babe for his entire career & maybe 1 I'm forgetting). The true #23 turned the NBA from an American sport to an international game and billion dollar business. BronBron did none of that. Plus, Michael won 6 titles, would have won 8 straight if he didn't retire for 2 years, and didn't lose once. LeBrons' teams are 2-2 in Finals Series. He also won these 6 titles without a dominant big man, a very impressive feat. In my 35 years, only the 2008 Celtics (Kendrick Perkins) didnt count their Center among the teams superstars'. Also, Mike's (and Coach Ditka's) greatness and larger than life persona gave the citizens of the Windy City a sense of pride they hadnt felt about athletic competition since Al Bundy scored 4 TD in one game for Polk High a generation earlier. These rabid, excitable, Superfans were the fiercest group of fanatics since the Kiss Army of the 1970s. Their passionate cheers and catchy phrases turned the Bulls NBA team into daaa Bullz, a brand and a way of life. LeBron didnt do that. his supporters aren't called Superfans, their called Bandwagon jumpers or frontrunners. LeBron is the most well-known, successful and richest citizen in Miami who doesn't use a digital scale and baggies during their workday, but that's only because Dewayne Wade is the only other Miamian who fits this criteria. Jordan lives next door to Oprah, Bill Murray, Harry Carray and Mike Dik-ka, among others. Oprah can eat D-Wade and Osh-kosh-Bosh for breakfast, literally. She would have already if they lived closer.
What did Mr. James do that compares to all Jordan accomplished? Nothing! Miami didn't see any big boost in popularity after he got there, it already had a rep as a party town and had been a popular tourist destination for years, ever since the country fell in love with Ray Finkle's iron leg took the Dolphins to the Superbowl in 1983. Miami stayed a staple in Airline flight destinations because of the weather, Hurricane/Dolphin football, and, thanks to Crockett and Tubbs, the safest streets in America Until Mr. James: wins a NCAA Championship under Dean Smith, gets drafted behind Sam Bowie, Saves Bugs Bunny from the clutches of Swackhammer, and hula dances with Chris Farley, he doesn't get my vote. Considering Dean Smith is retired, you can't be drafted twice, there is no "Space Jam" sequel in the works, and Chris Farley's dead, I don't see that happening. LeBron, better than Jordan?! HA!!! Montel Jordan maybe.
