A perfect story of how, no matter how hard I try, life ends up getting the best of me.
This typical Rob day actually started last night. I had slept 17 hours (no, that's not a typo) the previous night and had just woken up at 5:30 yesterday afternoon. This created a problem, because I had to go to bed somewhat early, because I had court at 9 AM the next day. I hung out for awhile, then, thinking I was tired, went upstairs at 2 AM. I laid down in complete silence and darkness- no music, no TV, no cell phone, no book, hoping the extreme boredom and quiet would let me pass out. No such luck, I laid in bed for no joke 4 hours, until 6 AM. At this point, I said "fuck it!", got out of bed, got my laptop and just started fucking around online. There was no chance of me falling asleep, so, unfortunately, I would have to go to court having not slept at all.
At around 8:15 AM, I put my laptop away, and started getting ready for court. I hung out with my parents for a bit, then headed out. I arrived at court with plenty of time to spare, so I thought I would be one of the first people attended too. Well, didn't work out like that. You are not allowed to have your cell phone turned on in court, so I just sat there and waited. 9:00 came and went...then 9:15....then 9:30. Not only had no one been seen yet, but the Judge wasn't even there. At 9:45 the court clerk started calling people up to reschedule. My new court date is Feb 18th. So, thats 1 wasted hour.
After court, I decide, as long as I am up and about, to stop at the Whitestown Court to get my deposition from the clerk for my DWI in 2005. I will need it for employment reasons. I am trying to be pro-active here. I get down there, and leave my car lights on, cuz I figure I will just be a few minutes. I get in, and court is in session, so the Clerk is unavailable. I wait around for 10 minutes until someone comes out of courtroom. When some lady finally does, I tell her I just need a deposition. She tells me that she has to help the next guy, then she will be right with me in 5 minutes. Upset she can't help me now, but happy I will get helped soon, I wait around....for 5 more minutes....then 10 minutes....then 15 minutes. Getting impatient, I walk out. I figure, I will drive to the post office, which is right down the street, mail my letters, check my mail, then come back to the Courthouse.
I get to my car only to find out the battery is dead because I left the lights on. I completely forgot about that the whole time I was in there. So, now really pissed, I start walking to the Courthouse, through 2 feet of snow. As I am walking I call AAA. I figure, it takes them an hour to arrive most of the time, so I have plenty of time to walk to Post Office, take care of my errands, then come back. I place my call to AAA, and they say the dude will be there within an hour and a half. This actually does not upset me, because I have something to do for once. Sure enough, not 5 minutes later, as I am walking through snow up to my shins literally 100 yards from Post Office, I get a call back from AAA. They say the driver is 2 minutes away. OF COURSE HE IS!! So, I turn around and run through that same 50 yards of foot high snow that I had just walked through, then ran back down the street, around the corner and back to the Courthouse, where the AAA guy was already working on my car. Luckily, it started no problem.
After I finished with him, I went back into the Courthouse to get my deposition. Court was over at this point, so I walked right in and told the clerk what I needed. She said a deposition was $5. This, I did not know. I thought they were free. No problem, I would pay with a credit card. Of course they only take cash, I should have figured. So, I don't get my deposition.
It is 11:30 at this point. 3 hours wasted so far, if you count driving time. At least I could still go to the Post Office, I thought. No, wrong again. The Post Office is closed from 11-12 daily. The whole fucking Post Office is closed! Fucking small towns, I'll tell you! So, I can't weigh out my letters to determine how much postage they need, so I just cake them with stamps. I am positive I overpaid there, but they needed to get out, and I definitely was not making another trip. I was supposed to check my PO Box too, but I could not, because my mail key was on my keychain, which was in my car's ignition. I could not turn my car off, or it would not start again, as it was just jumped. So, I went home defeated, having wasted nearly 4 hours of the day. Not wanting anything else to go wrong, I took a nap and slept away the afternoon.
